    What is Ping?

    Ping is a network utility that tests the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It measures the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer.

    Ping uses ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) Echo Request and Echo Reply messages to test connectivity.

    1. Send Echo Request
    Your computer sends an ICMP Echo Request packet to the target host
    2. Receive Echo Reply
    The target host responds with an ICMP Echo Reply packet
    3. Calculate Round-Trip Time
    The time difference is measured and reported as latency

    Why can't I ping some websites?
    Many websites and servers block ICMP ping requests for security reasons. This doesn't mean the server is down -it just doesn't respond to ping. Try using other tools like traceroute or checking if the website loads in a browser.
    What's a good ping time?
    For local networks: <1ms is excellent. For internet connections: <20ms is excellent, 20-50ms is good,50-100ms is acceptable for most applications, and >100ms may cause noticeable delays in real-time applications.
    How many packets should I send?
    For quick tests, 4-10 packets are usually sufficient. For more accurate statistics or troubleshooting,send 50-100 packets. For continuous monitoring, you can run ping indefinitely.
    What does TTL mean?
    TTL (Time To Live) is the maximum number of hops (routers) a packet can pass through before being discarded.It prevents packets from circulating indefinitely. Common values are 64 (Linux/Mac) and 128 (Windows).
    Can ping test bandwidth?
    No, ping only tests latency and connectivity using small packets. To test bandwidth, you need tools likespeedtest, iperf, or bandwidth monitoring utilities that transfer larger amounts of data.
    Why do I get different results each time?
    Network conditions change constantly due to traffic load, routing changes, and other factors.Small variations are normal. Consistent large differences may indicate network instability.
